B & G’s #154 9/21/11

Chicago White Sox (74-79) Vs Cleveland Indians (76-77)

At Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Mark Buerhle (11-9, 3.74) Vs Ubaldo Jimenez (10-11, 4.49)

Final Score: Chicago 8, Cleveland 4

W- Mark Buerhle (12-9)

L- Ubaldo Jimenez (10-12)

Baseballs:

**Mark Buerhle- This might have been the last time the Indians face Mark as a division rival. He is going to be a free agent, and I am going to say this now….it would be fantastic to see him in an Indians uniform. Is it going to happen? Who knows, the Indians need an Innings eater for 2012, but it might be doubtful, I see the Cardinals going after him hard, and he is from that area. But tonight, 6 strong innings, giving up 2 runs, (2 earned), he walked 2, striking out 2. Mark has a 3.72 ERA, and won his 12th game of the season.

**Brent Morel- Brent went 2-4, hit his 9th Home Run of the season, drove in 3 runs, giving him 39 RBIs. He is now hitting .254.

**Alejandro De Aza- Alejandro went 2-5, he drove in 2 runs, giving him 23 RBIs. De Aza is now hitting .328.

**Alex Rios- Alex went 1-4, he hit his 12th Home Run of the season, drove in his 42nd RBI, and is now hitting .223.

**Alexei Ramirez- Alexei went 1-5, but that hit was his 15th Home Run of the season, giving him his 68th RBI. He is hitting .271 on the season.

**Dayan Viciedo- Dayan went 1-3 with a walk, he scored 2 runs, and is hitting .278.

**Will Ohman- Will threw 2/3 of an inning, not giving up any runs, he has a 4.50 ERA.

**Sergio Santos- It wasn’t a save situation, but it didn’t have to be. He threw a scoreless inning, striking out 1. Sergio has a 3.38 ERA.

**Travis Hafner- Pronk went 1-3 with a walk, he hit his 13th Home Run of the season, he drove in 2 runs, giving him 57 RBIs. He is hitting .280 on the year.

**Jason Kipnis- Jason went 1-3, he drove in his 16th RBI. He is hitting .294 on the season.

**Jason Donald- Jason went 1-3 with a walk, he is hitting .311.

**Carlos Santana- Carlos went 1-4, but he drove in his 78th RBI of the season. Carlos is hitting .238.

**Frank Herrmann- Frank threw a scoreless inning, he has a 5.37 ERA.

1/2 Baseball, 1/2 Goofball:

**Ubaldo Jimenez- For 6 innings, Jimenez was very strong, but unfortunately, he ran out of gas, and gave up 3 more runs in the 7th inning. So, Jimenez worked 7 innings, giving up 4 runs, (4 earned), he walked 2, and struck out 7. Ubaldo lost his 12th game, and has a 4.52 ERA.

Goofballs:

**Chad Durbin- Chad gave up 3 Home Runs in the 8th inning, putting the game out of reach. 1 inning of work, giving up 4 runs, (4 earned), he walked 1, had 1 strikeout. Chad has a 5.45 ERA.

**Indians Offense- 4 runs on 8 hits, but nobody had a multi=hit game, and left 5 men on base.

**Jason Frasor- Jason worked 1/3 of an inning, gave up 1 run, 91 earned), he has a 3.39 ERA.

**Jason Crain- Jason worked an inning, he gave up 1 run, (1 earned), walked 1, and now has a 2.38 ERA.

Indians record after 154 games in 2011: 76-78

Indians record after 154 games in 2010: 63-91

Indians record in one run games in 2011: 28-25

Indians Quality Starts in 2011: 84

On Deck:

The Indians had an opportunity to win, but Ubaldo lost it in the 7th inning, and the Indians lost a tough one to the White Sox. The Indians have an opportunity to hang on second place in the standings, and to split the series, if they can win Thursday evening. The game will start at 7:05 PM, airing on STO, with Indians On Deck at 6:30 PM. Phillip Humber (9-8, 3.59) makes the start. He will be opposed by Jeanmar Gomez (4-2, 3.78). The game will air on WTAM 1100-AM. Let’s find a way to take this win, and keep second place in tact. Through it all, Go Tribe.

At least the Indians split this Double Header. It is difficult to sweep a Double Header, but Zach McAllister pitched very well this time around. The offense had a chance to come back, but the White Sox bullpen closed it out. So it’s off to another game on Wednesday evening, game starts at 7:05 PM, airing on STO, with Indians On Deck at 6:30 PM. Mark Buerhle (11-9, 3.74) will face off against Ubaldo Jimenez (10-11, 4.49). The game will air on WTAM 1100-AM if you can’t see it on TV. Time to regroup, and find a way to win this game, and through it all…Go Tribe.

Goofballs:

**Charlie Furbush- He was aided by his offense because his numbers were bad. 5 innings of work, giving up 6 runs, (6 earned), he did walk 1 man, and had 8 strikeouts. Charlie won his 4th game, and has a 5.22 ERA.

Indians Quality Starts in 2011: 83

On Deck:

I was at the game, and actually left early after that horrendous 3rd inning. The fact is there were sirens sounding off, and I truly wanted to beat the storm, and it wound up I did. The game ended after the 7th inning, and they truly should not have played this game, but MLB had to make sure teams played throughout, so I guess that was their reason. This is surely a tough schedule to end the season on, but someone has to do it, so let’s end this season on a good note, and it starts tomorrow, on Tuesday afternoon for a day-night double-header. The first game starts at 1:05 PM, airing on STO, with Indians On Deck at 12:30 PM. They are playing the White Sox, and it’s Gavin Floyd (12-11, 4.42) will take on Fausto Carmona (6-15, 5.26). The game will air on WTAM 1100-AM, so let’s set the tone on this series with a win. Through it all, Go Tribe.

On Deck:

No doubt about it, the Rangers are about 5 levels above the Indians. They know how to win, play together on the same team. Hopefully, the Indians are learning this too, and they will start to get rewarded next season. However, they must do better against the tope teams, 9-1 against the Rangers just will not cut it. But let’s move on, the Indians still need to reach their goal of finishing the season over .500, and finishing in 2nd place. But the Indians have to start beating these teams they are facing, and we start with Minnesota for a three game series. Game starts at 8:10 PM, airing on STO, with Indians On Deck at 7:30 PM. Ubaldo Jimenez (9-11, 4.61) will take on Kevin Slowey (0-5, 6.07). The game will air on WTAM 1100-AM, let’s get this win and through it all….Go Tribe.

Cleveland Indians (72-73) Vs Texas Rangers (84-64)

At Rangers Park in Arlington, Texas

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

David Huff (2-4, 3.05) Vs Derek Holland (13-5, 4.09)

Final Score: Texas 9, Cleveland 1

W- Derek Holland (14-5)

L- David Huff (2-5)

Baseballs:

**Josh Hamilton- Josh led the way here with a big Grand Slam in the 4th inning, his 21st Home Run of the season. Josh now has 87 RBIs, and scored 2 runs. He is hitting .296 on the season.

**Mike Napoli- Imagine what he could have done for the Indians if he had been playing here. 2 more hits, including hitting his 26th Home Run of the season, driving in 2 runs, giving him 67 RBIs. Mike is hitting .310 on the year.

**Derek Holland- Derek threw 7 strong innings, giving up just 1 run, (1 earned), he walked 3 men, and had 6 strikeouts. Derek won his 14th game and has a 4.02 ERA.

**Craig Gentry- Craig went 2-4 with 2 stolen bases, giving him 18 on the year. Craig is hitting .271.

**Adrian Beltre- 2 hits for Adrian, going 2-4, with a double. He is hitting .289.

**Ian Kinsler- Ian went 1-5 with his 29th Home Run of the season, giving him 73 RBis, and 2 runs scored. He is hitting .251.

**Yorvit Torrealba- Yorvit went 1-3 with a walk and a run scored. he is hitting .273.

**Merkin Valdez- Valdez threw a scoreless inning, striking out 2. He has a 5.40 ERA.

**Darren O’Day- Darren threw a scoreless inning, striking out 2. He has a 5.52 ERA.

**Shelley Duncan- Shelley went 1-3 with a walk, but that wasn’t the story. He made 3 fantastic catches, robbing the Rangers of hits, maybe even Home Runs, all in a row. He also made a sliding catch, robbing another hit. Shelley is a beast, a Gold Glove outfielder, at least for today. He is hitting .264.

**Lonnie Chisenhall- Lonnie provided the Indians with their only offense, hitting his 7th Home Run of the season, driving in his 15th RBI. He is hitting .240.

**Carlos Santana- Carlos went 1-3 with a walk, he is hitting .236 on the season.

**Chad Durbin- Chad worked 2 innings, giving up 1 run, (1 earned), he struck out 1, and has a 4.91 ERA.

**Frank Herrmann- Frank threw a scoreless inning, he walked 1, and struck out 1. Frank has a 5.40 ERA.

**Nick Hagadone- A scoreless inning for Nick, striking out 1 and giving him a 7.94 ERA.

Goofballs:

**David Huff- The error didn’t help, but that 4th inning was brutal. He went 4 innings of work, giving up 8 runs, (3 earned), he walked 1, had 1 strikeout, and gave up 2 Home Runs. David lost his 5th game, and now has a 3.40 ERA. Regardless of what happened, Huff was not good here.

**Lonnie Chisenhall- Lonnie committed his 8th error of the season.

**Indians Offense- 1 run, on 7 hits, and once again, 10 strikeouts here.

Indians record after 146 games in 2011: 72-74

Indians record after 146 games in 2010: 60-86

Indians record in one run games in 2011: 25-24

Indians Quality Starts in 2011: 80

On Deck:

This was nationally televised on ESPN, and boy did the Indians play horrible. The only shining part of this game were the 3 catches by Shelley. The Indians are now 1-8 against the Rangers this season, which makes me wish there was no game on Thursday. But, there is, and it starts at 8:10 PM, airing on STO, with Indians On Deck at 7:30 PM. Fausto Carmona (6-14, 5.18) will take on Alexi Ogando (12-8, 3.71). The game will air on WTAM 1100-AM if you can’t see it on TV. We need to get this one, just to save face. Go Tribe.
